Evelyn M. Schoeff

Evelyn M. Schoeff Evelyn Marie Schoeff, age 93, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017, at her home at Meadowlark Hills-Lyle House.

She was born on March 2, 1923, at the Methodist Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Leonard Arthur and Edna Mae (Beckett) Erickson.

Following her high school graduation Evelyn attended Purdue University where she earned her B.S. degree in October of 1944.

On December 23, 1945, at the Simpson United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Schoeff.

Prior to her marriage Evelyn had worked as a chemist for General Electric at Fort Wayne and following her marriage worked as a research chemist for Ag Chemistry at Purdue University. In August of 1960, they moved to Manhattan where Evelyn was a loving homemaker and devoted community volunteer.

Evelyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan and had served on the church council. Other memberships included PEO Chapter BD, the KSU Social Club, TPM, and honorary memberships with Sigma Xi at Purdue University and Kappa Delta at Kansas State University. An avid volunteer, Evelyn was quite active with the American Red Cross for many years and had served on their board and as KSU Bloodmobile Chair for 4 ½ years. Outside of her memberships she enjoyed expressing her artistic talents in cake decorating and floral arranging.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Schoeff, of their home at Meadowlark Hills. They had been married for over 71 years. She is also survived by their two children: Marcia L. Hawkes of Rosenberg, Texas and Eric W. Schoeff and his wife Kristin of Columbus, Ohio, by eight grandchildren: Sara McGovern (Tim), Jeffrey Hawkes, Jerry Hawkes (Melissa), David Schoeff (Bethany), Jonathan Schoeff (Candace), Michael Schoeff, Daniel Schoeff (Sarah Niedergall) and Stephen Schoeff (Aparna Baheti) and eight great grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and by her son-in-law: Gary Hawkes.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation prior to the funeral beginning at 1:30 at the funeral home.

Interment services will be held 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan.
