Roy J. Worthington
Roy J. Worthington, age 82, died on Friday December 16, 2016 at the Westy Care Home, Westmoreland, Kansas.
He was born on December 9, 1934 in Waterville, Kansas the son of John and Ada (Osbourne) Worthington. He graduated from Waterville High School with the class of 1953. Roy joined the United States Navy and served his country from 1955 until 1958. He spent many years doing commercial and residential construction in and around Manhattan until his retirement.
Roy was united in marriage to Delores Ann Younger on May 27, 1967 in Park, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children: Tamara, Craig and Corey.
He had many interests in life, including being outdoors, whether it was taking care of the lawn or cleaning the cars. He took pride in his Ford Ranger trucks that he had. Roy also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. When Roy, Delores and their dog: Smurf went to Vista, they always got 3 ice cream cones. Other dog companions were: Buddy, Cutie Pie and Smokey (Moon Dog. Roy watched the Chiefs, Royals and K-State sports on television and enjoyed listening to the golden oldies. Above all, Roy had the deepest of loves for his wife of 49 years, Delores, their children and especially the grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Donna Russell.
Survivors include his wife: Delores of Manhattan; daughter: Tamara K. Spradling (Larry) of Manhattan; 2 sons: Craig E. Worthington (Julie) of Chehalis, WA and Corey J. Worthington of Norfolk, VA; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and his sister: Barbara Svoboda of Lincolnville, Kansas along with many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday December 22, 2016 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Pierre & Juliette, Manhattan, Kansas with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Elbow Creek, Manhattan, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil/Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the --Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Program at Meadowlark Hills in care of the --Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
