Betty Jo Kirby

Betty Jo Kirby Betty Jo Kirby, age 91, of St. George, died December 1, 2016, at the Via Christi Hospital Emergency Room.

She was born January 21, 1925, in Chelsea, Oklahoma, the daughter of Elmer P. and Crystal C. (Oasley) Beasley, and had been an area resident since1966.

Mrs. Kirby graduated from high school in Pittsburg, Kansas.

On December 24, 1947, in Vancouver, Washington, she was married to Delbert D. Kirby. Mr. Kirby preceded her in death on September 11, 2005.

Mrs. Kirby was the Bookkeeping Supervisor for Citizens State Bank in Manhattan from 1968 until her retirement on June 3, 1992.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed the lunch meeting at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center and was an avid walker at Manhattan Town Center. She took great care of her house and yard and lived through the depression and WWII. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her two children: Steve Kirby and his wife Debbie of St. George, and Deb Long and her husband John of Wamego; five grandchildren: J.D. Kirby (Libby), Alicia Prignitz (Andrew), Melissa Snyder, Brent Long and Crystal Conrad (Travis); seven great-grandchildren and she was looking forward to her eighth to be born in January.

Betty Jo was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Don and Glen Beasley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will be in the Valley View Memorial Gardens Cemetery east of Manhattan.
