Mark L. Scott
Mark L. Scott, age 54, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at his home.
He was born on August 26, 1962, in Burden, Kansas the son of Dale L. “Bud” and Betty L. (Bogner) Scott. Mark was raised in Burden where he attended school, graduating from Central of Burden High School. Following his high school graduation he attended Cowley County Community College earning his Associates degree and then Kansas State University where he earned his B.S. degree in Animal Science.
Mark worked at the Agronomy Farm at Kansas State University prior to going to work part time for the Veterinary Medicine Hospital at Kansas State where he drove the Wildcat Express in addition to farming. In recent years he worked full time operating the Scott Farm as well as helping with numerous other farms in the Deep Creek and Zeandale communities.
He was a member of the Riley County Livestock Association, Past Board Member of the Riley County Farm Bureau, served on the Zeandale Township Board where he helped maintain and clear roads and assisted with overseeing the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Riley County Firefighters in the Zeandale Community, member of the Blue Valley Pork Producers, served on the Extension Ag Program Development Committee and had recently been accepted into the Leadership Sorghum Class. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, horseback riding and enjoying the company of his dog “Bandit.”
On August 6, 1982, in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was united in marriage to the former Donnell J. Sanborn. She survives of their home. Also surviving is their son: Jason Scott and his wife Carmen of Manhattan, his two brothers: Ron Scott and Mike Scott, both of Burden, Kansas, his sister: Janet Sullivan and her husband Bob of Claremore, Oklahoma and his nieces: Julia Hicks (Phillip), Leah Finnegan (Paul) and nephew: Travis Sullivan.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Sunday, December 4th, 2016, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leslye Haller officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near his home.
