Justina Anne Cockerham

Justina Anne Cockerham Justina Anne Cockerham, age 87, of Junction City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 16th, 2016, at her residence.

She was born December 19, 1928, in Neuss, Germany, the daughter of Karl Ferdenand and Helen (Lessmann) Becker. She grew up in Germany and moved to the United States in 1953, and to this area in 1957.

Justina was a homemaker and had worked at a high end department store in Germany prior to having children and later in her life at Gerald’s Jewelry.

She was active at the Senior Center in Junction City and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Justina was married to Clarence Clifford Slocum and they later divorced. She was married to James Clovis Cockerham on November 10, 1963, at Fort Riley, KS. Mr. Cockerham preceded her in death on July 22, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Clifford Slocum and by one brother Hans Becker.

Survivors include six children: Cornelia “Corky” Pollock and her husband Jeffrie of Junction City, KS, Maria H. Maddy and her husband Mark of Quemado, NM, Sharon Shull and her husband Butch of Inverness, FL, Carol “Kay” Mohler and her husband Mike of Manhattan, KS, John Cockerham and his wife Jodi of Osborne, KS, and Grace Hirsch of York, PA; ten grandchildren: Erin Booth (Tim), Melisa McCammon (Kevin), Spencer Slocum (Jean), Sara Slocum-Doyle (Zac), Jamie and Jessa Cockerham, Megan, Alicha and Brittany Jones, and Justina Sauls; eight great-grandchildren: Tannon Woods, Jonathan, Connor and Emily McCammon, Kacie Slocum, Brogan Doyle, Shyla Chetwood and Jacob Jones; her best friend Beverly Mock of Junction City and Beverly’s daughter Brenda one of Justina’s caretakers.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Main Post Cemetery at Fort Riley. Family and friends are invited and encouraged to meet at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home from 8:30 AM to 10:15 AM Friday at which time a procession will be formed to the cemetery.
