Janice Sicard

Janice Sicard She was born in her grandparent’s hotel on July 6, 1935 to Margaret L Odgers Simnitt in Haddam, Kansas. She spent her childhood raised by her grandparents, David and Ida Odgers in Haddam and Morganville. She died on Nov. 8, 2016 in her home in Topeka surrounded by family.
She graduated from Morganville High School in 1953.

Janice met Hector Sicard the summer of 1949 and their first date was to see Esther Williams in Neptune's Daughter. They married at St. Joe Catholic Church in St. Joe, Kansas on Feb. 6, 1954. Their early marriage was spent in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1958 they moved to Manhattan where Junior would work as a barber until his retirement in 2008. Janice would continue her career in insurance and retired from Langton Ins. in 2001. Over the years she enjoyed the many customers that she met.

Janice and Junior enjoyed raising and showing Persian cats and belonged to the A.C.F.A. And C.F.A.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing and camping and cherished her special friendship with four other couples who had dinners, dancing, weekly card games and vacationed together for over fifty years.

Her real joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, family and friends. She enjoyed attending all the many events in their lives. She was an avid K-State Football and Basketball fan.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hector J. Sicard. Her sister Jane Hooper, 6 brother-in-law and 1 sister-in-law.

Janice is also survived by her three children Jacqueline Sicard Murrell, Jeff and Julie Sicard, and Jim Sicard.

Her nine grandchildren Darcy Murrell Wilhite and husband Brian, Ramey Murrell, and Kaleigh Murrell and friend Nate Warner, Amanda Sicard Garner and husband Bryce, Danielle Sicard Holthaus and husband Dustin, Wyatt Sicard, Fate Sicard Meyer and husband Scott, Jed Sicard and fiancé Tarin Kimmi, Chenea Sicard Werner and husband Josh.

Her 13 great grandchildren Genevieve Wilhite, Adelyne Wilhite, Emerson Murrell, Bentley Murrell, Denton Murrell, Cash Warner, Carson Garner, Brylee Garner, Cooper Garner, Aubree Garner, Cole Holthaus, Hallie Werner, and Colton Meyer.

Cousins Charlene Olson, Scott and Claudia Odgers Sisters-in-law Madeline Wright, Margaret Sicard and Althea Sicard and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at Seven Dolors Catholic Church 731 Pierre Street, Manhattan, Kansas at 10:30 a. m. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be Sunday Nov. 13, 2016 from 2-4 with a Rosary at 4 p. m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Janice Sicard Memorial Fund for Austism in care of the funeral home.
