Allen J. Tilley
Allen J. Tilley, age 62, of Manhattan passed away on Thursday October 20, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas.
He was born on August 25, 1954 in Bethany, MO the son of Harry and Thelma (Allen) Tilley. The family moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1964. He graduated from Manhattan High with the class of 1972. He later graduated from Manhattan Technical College in Building Trades.
AJ was a past member of Carpenters Local #918 and worked for many years as a carpenter. In 1978, he was one of a select few Union carpenters from Kansas sent to Lagos Nigeria to build a US embassy. For several years, he and Shelly owned and operated 2nd Look clothing in Wamego. For the last 25 years, Allen answered his true calling of selling cars. He has held the prestigious “Owner’s Award of Excellence” as one of the top 5% in sales and customer satisfaction in the country for Nissan for the last seven years. He worked at Capital City Nissan of Topeka and they were like his second family. Allen could sell ice to an Eskimo.
Allen was preceded in death by his father; twin infant sisters and his brother: John Tilley.
Survivors include his wife Shelly and his beloved Shih Tzus: Streak and Spot of the home; his mother: Thelma Tilley of Manhattan, KS; his step-daughter: Kristen Allen of Manhattan, KS; a granddaughter: Lydia Allen; sisters: Jeannette Haile of Topeka and Jewell Tilley of Manhattan; a brother: Andy Tilley of Wamego; several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday October 28, 2016 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas with Rev. Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter in Memory of Allen J. Tilley for general animal care. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
