Steven R. Ukena
Steven R. Ukena, age 68, died on Friday September 23, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on August 12, 1948 in Manhattan, Kansas the son of Marvin Earl & Lona (Axelton) Ukena. Following his graduation from Manhattan High with the class of 1967 he joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country from 1968 until 1970 during the Vietnam War. He retired from Westar Energy after being an electrical lineman for 29 years. He was most recently a janitor at Westmoreland grade school.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was on his motorcycle, boat, or tending to his cattle. He loved hunting, fishing, water skiing, ice skating and playing ball with Alexa. He also liked doing his hobby of Taxidermy. Above all, he loved his time with Alexa and all of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his daughter: Alexa Ukena of Omaha, NE; his mother: Lona Mae Ukena of Manhattan ; 3 brothers: Jerry Ukena of Manhattan, James Ukena of St. George and Terry Ukena of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday September 29, 2016 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 330 Sunset Ave., Manhattan, Kansas with Rev. Michael J. Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuttle Creek Lake Associations Youth Fishing Clinic in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
