June C. Schwerdt
June C. Schwerdt, age 92, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas, died Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Minneapolis, Kansas. In recent years she had resided in Salina, Kansas.
June was born on February 25, 1924, in Weldon Spring, Missouri the daughter of Oscar and Olinda (Link) Gutermuth. Her father died when she was just 12 years old and her mother later married Rudolph Lovgren whom June adored.
The family lived in several communities in Missouri while June was growing up. She graduated from Wright City High School in Wright City, Missouri.
On March 12, 1943, in Vancouver, Washington she was united in marriage to Alfred H. Schwerdt. In 1946 they moved to Manhattan to make their home. Alfred died on July 27, 1994. Following his death June moved to Texas where she made her home until returning to Kansas about ten years ago to live with one of her two sons in Salina.
June was a wonderful homemaker to her family and enjoyed working outside of the home as well. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed working at Kramer Food Service at Kansas State University for more than 20 years where she was Food Supervisor.
June was a devout Christian and was an active member of the First Christian Church in Manhattan. Outside of her church activities she enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting, woodworking and painting.
She is survived by her two sons: Ron Schwerdt and his wife Tatiana, Manhattan, KS; Daryle Schwerdt and his wife Terri, Salina, KS; and two brothers: Marion Gutermuth and Francis Gutermuth, both of Warrenton, Missouri. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren: Sheri Saville, Chrissy Arnold, Stephanie Heersink, Dillon Schwerdt, Ryan Wisdom, Rachel Wisdom, Kip Wilson, Doug Wilson, Alex Dubrosky, Shawn Schwerdt, Jeremy Schwerdt, Daryle Schwerdt, Marissa Lopez, Riannon Lopez and Savanna Schwerdt; thirteen great grandchildren: Jackson, Trevor and Trenton Schwerdt, Shannon Krenek, Joshua Saville, Shelby Lynn Arnold, Jesse Taylor, Linley, Thayer and Kessly Wilson, Isabel, Elijah and Evelyn Wisdom; and numerous great-great grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her parents including her step-father; one son: Allen Schwerdt; two sisters: Muriel Sekarski and Shirly Tarwater and a brother: Ralph Gutermuth who died in infancy.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, September 22, 2016, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul J. Allen, IV officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
