Mark M. Jilka

Mark M. Jilka Mark M. Jilka, age 49, of Manhattan, died June 26, 2014, as the result of an automobile/bicycle accident south of Manhattan.

He was born May 1, 1965, in Salina, Kansas the son of Eugene W. and Dorothy F. (Haslauer) Jilka.

Mark graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School, and then in 2002 from Kansas State University with a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering and Feed Science.

He served for 10 years of active duty in the United States Navy and was still active in the Naval Reserves and held the rank of Lieutenant. He had served two tours in the
Persian Gulf and one in Afghanistan.

Mark worked as a mechanical engineer at Dymax in Wamego.

He enjoyed bicycling, gardening and brewing beer.

Mark is survived by his father of Roeland Park, KS; eight siblings: Catherine O’Rourke of Overland Park, KS, Joseph Jilka of College Station, TX, Benedict Jilka of Westmoreland, KS, Frances Churchill of Manhattan, Peter Jilka of Kansas City, MO, Paul Jilka of Roeland Park, KS, Philip Jilka of Kansas City, MO, and Lucy Jilka of Washington, DC; his significant other Patricia Thompson of the home; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Joseph S. Popelka as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
