On the morning of Friday, July 13, 2007, Patricia (Patty) Aileene Griswold was taken home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Patty was born June 9, 1942 to Jess L. and Elizabeth (Bradey) Tovey in Coffeyville, KS. The Tovey family moved from Coffeyville, KS to Pasadena, TX while Patricia was still young.
Upon High School graduation, she went on to attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, where she earned her BBA degree. While attending SMSU she met, fell in love with and on January 24, 1964 married Wilburn Carnell Griswold of Santa Fe, TX. This union took place at Eastminister Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, TX surrounded with family and friends.
It was 1969 that the young couple started their own family with the birth of twin girls and in 1974 added their third daughter to the family. Patty served faithfully as an officers wife during Wilburn’s 21 ˝ year Army career.
After the Army career ended in 1987, the family stayed briefly in Kansas City, MO before placing roots in Ogden, KS. Settling down in Ogden brought Patty the opportunity to serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at Manhattan Christian College. Aside from work, she was an active member at Ogden Baptist Church and also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Above all that, she was always involved in her favorite activities, spending time with family and having the opportunity to watch her children and now grandchildren grow.
Patty is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wilburn Griswold of Ogden, KS; three daughters, Tara Smith and her husband Robert of Kansas City, MO, Tracy James and her husband Les of Deerfield, KS and Barbara Bingham and her husband Scott of Ogden, KS; one brother, Charles Robert Tovey and his wife Sharon of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Nolan Smith, Nathan Smith, Ethan James, Cody Bingham, Sydney Bingham, Caitlyn James and another to be born in December.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
